beyondadornment was founded in 2009 with the mission of making tees that do more than display a pretty picture or tell people who you are. We’re about educational designs that go through and/or around you, effectively making you part of the picture.  Which equates to a lesson that sticks.

Our first tee, The OrbiTee, was inspired by our own befuddlement as to the cause of Earth’s seasons. A lesson probably learned in fifth grade, we had long since forgotten it, but Jinya (the adopted Chinese daughter of our founder, and pictured in Out of Stock Items) was demanding an answer:  she got why the rotation made it daytime in China but nighttime here, but why both China and America grew warmer and then cooler over the year was another matter.  Researching the answer online, what brought home the impact of the Earth’s tilt was imagining our home planet orbiting one’s own body, with the Sun inside us. From this point, it was only a small step to realizing a tee shirt could make the lesson stick—for Jinya and others as well. A couple of nights at The Learning Annex in New York at the feet of master tee shirt entrepreneurs Michael de Zayas and Keith Knight, and we were ready to bring our vision to you, our customers.  The OrbiTee:  the tee you’ll want to keep forever.
